5 steps to make your makeup last through the day

How to make your makeup last longer

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, skin care is essential for makeup application and all day wear! Before even beginning to apply your makeup, your skin should be as smooth and flawless as possible. Dry skin can get in the way and shorten the wear of your makeup by causing flakiness and an uneven skin surface. Exfoliating removes the dead skin and leaves a smooth and flawless complexion.

We all know the importance of drinking water to keep our bodies hydrated. Just as water is essential for hydration, our skin needs to be kept hydrated as well. When it comes to makeup, your skin must be hydrated and moisturized in order for the makeup to adhere to it. Dry skin creates flakiness, and the last thing you want is for your makeup to flake off during the day.

You may be one of those who’ve heard of primer for years, but question whether this extra step is really necessary. The truth is that primer improves the performance of your makeup in more ways than the lasting power alone. Primer smooths out your skin’s surface, minimizes pores, and improves the longevity of the makeup on your skin. Primer also adds an extra barrier between your skin and the makeup; and helps prevent it from entering into your pores, clogging them, and causing breakouts.

Setting powder!

We all want our makeup to stay exactly where we’ve placed it. Well, that’s where setting powder comes in. Setting powder does exactly what it sounds like: it sets those liquid and cream products exactly where applied, and who doesn’t want their makeup set in place perfectly where they placed it? Powdering your makeup also ensures long wear and prevents those oils from seeping in and adding unnecessary shine.

Finishing spray!

If you’re looking for that next level wear, finishing spray is awesome for that extra touch to truly seal in your makeup. There are a variety of sprays out there, some with the goal of giving you that dewy look, others to control shine, and others simply to help improve the wearability and longevity of your makeup. Make sure to read the label before you buy your spray to ensure that it fits with your objective and skin type. If you have super oily skin, you probably want to purchase a mattifying spray. If you have super dry skin and are looking for that extra glow, use one with a dewy finish. If your goal is simply to improve wearability, then a basic finishing spray should do the trick for you!
